Jean Pierre / Salik
Initiated in the Sufi Ruhaniat International in 1974 in San Francisco. His guide was a mureed of Murshid Sam, Majid Elbers. He was initiated in the Sufi Ruhaniat as a Sheikh in 2002 by Murshid Sauluddin and Pir Shabda. He was initiated in the Dervish Healing Order as a Shafayat in 2006. His practices include the prayer of remembrance (Zikr) of Hazrat Inayat Khan, the walks of Murshid Sam as walking meditation (Fikr), and the heart sutra from the Zen Buddhist contemplatives, prayers, and healing ritual of Hazrat Inayat Khan.
As in the Sufi tradition, he lived in the world (always doing spiritual practices) and worked in the hospitality industry in the USA, married, and has 5 daughters and 9 grandchildren. He is now a resident of the Algarve, Portugal.
As his mentors before him, he seeks to inspire to trust the wisdom and light that are ever-present when one turns within one's own heart. Hazrat Inayat Khan called it the Spirit of Guidance.
My Story
Majid Elbers was Murshid Sam student. She became a leader and Sheikha in the Sufi Ruhaniat. She initiated Jean Pierre in 1974. She welcomed him into her home. He lived with her family for 6 years.
Majid encouraged her student to live in the world and go back to school where he earned a master's degree from Cornell University in hospitality. He had a successful career as hotel and club executive until his retirement.
